Working with global organizations, we are raising consciousness about the reality of climate change and taking action to make a meaningful and positive difference in the world.
In 2009, The Coca-Cola Company and more than 950 companies signed the Copenhagen Communiqué, a statement calling for an ambitious, effective and equitable global deal on climate change. The Communiqué lays out the business case for a strong and effective UN climate framework and offers a progressive global consensus on the shape of the agreement. Many of our largest bottling partners have also endorsed the Communiqué: CCE, CCHBC, Coca-Cola FEMSA, Coca-Cola Içecek and Swire Pacific.
In lead up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009, we sponsored Hopenhagen, a movement to empower citizens to help create a better future for our planet by working together to combat climate change. This grassroots movement has the potential to demonstrate that citizens support change to help create a more sustainable world.
In 2007, we signed the UN Global Compact's "Caring for Climate: The Business Leadership Platform (PDF)." The Platform, which was announced together with the Global Compact Leaders Summit, is a global call to businesses and governments to speed up action on climate change. We have committed to work to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions from our operations. We also have committed to engage our global supply chain to work toward the common objective of advancing practical climate change solutions.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment, we created The Coca-Cola Company Polar Bear Support Fund in partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to help build awareness and support for the polar bear. Since 2007, we have contributed $500,000 to WWF to help in its efforts to protect polar bears and their habitat. An additional $100,000 was raised through the MyCokeRewards brand loyalty program to help support WWF's efforts. Learn more about how our contributions have helped.
Our partnership with WWF is another way that we are working to reduce our energy consumption and climate footprint. Learn more about our efforts.
