The Coca-Cola Company

Refuel

Coca-Cola has one of the largest distribution systems in the world. We're able to keep our transportation footprint relatively low because our operations are largely local for bottling, production and delivery. The use of more hybrid passenger cars for our sales force and diesel-electric hybrid delivery trucks is helping our system bring our products to market more efficiently.

Through the introduction of idle-reduction and biodiesel technologies, we're working to conserve fuel in our fleet of approximately 200,000 diesel vehicles. This also can help reduce emissions. We've also started using diesel-electric hybrid trucks in select markets. Click through the slideshow below to learn more.

  • Compact, electric-powered trucks

For example, in Uruguay, we're using 30 compact, electric-powered trucks to efficiently and conveniently deliver our beverages to smaller retail locations in congested areas while reducing emissions. This new model averages one-fifth the fuel consumption of the earlier model.

  • Diesel-electric delivery trucks

And in Mexico, our system introduced new diesel-electric delivery trucks to its distribution fleet. The new trucks are 30 percent more fuel efficient and reduce CO2 emissions by 40 percent.Throughout 2009, the Company is updating all of its 85 diesel fuel delivery trucks in New Delhi to be powered by compressed natural gas. And, CCE, our largest bottling partner, will add an additional 185 diesel-electric delivery trucks to its fleet in 2009, bringing its total fleet to 327 trucks in the United States and Canada, creating the largest heavy-duty hybrid electric delivery fleet in North America.
