Coca-Cola Completes "Community Clean Water Supply and Sanitation" Project in Cambodia |
| August 12, 2010
Coca-Cola is utilizing a U.S. $30,000 grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation and Cambodia Beverages Company to implement a "Community Clean Water Supply and Sanitation" project in Cambodia's Kampong Speu province, in partnership with nongovernment organization Cambodia for Peace and Development.
The project will enable over 1,800 people in Kampong Speu province, one of the least developed provinces in Cambodia, to have access to clean water through ceramic purifiers and new wells. The ceramic purifiers, in particular, are a simple but effective way of ensuring that rural communities get clean water, as they are compact and easy to store and use. In addition, the project has educated residents on sanitation and health care to broaden the positive impact of the initiative.
The project began in December 2009 and will be fully completed by November 2010. An official ceremony was held on July 4 to turn over the near-completed project to the community, attended by representatives from bottler Cambodia Beverage Company, local government authorities and all the beneficiaries of the initiative.
