Coca-Cola Montevideo Refrescos Launches Pilot Program for Eco-Trucks |
February 5, 2008
Coca-Cola subsidiary, Montevideo Refrescos, and
an alternative transportation provider, ZAP, are running a pilot
program of 30 low fuel and low-emission Xebra trucks to distribute
products in urban Montevideo, Uruguay. This new model averages
one-fifth the fuel consumption of the earlier model. The eco-trucks
are modified with enclosed, lockable beds allow the trucks to
navigate narrow, inner-city streets.
Coca-Cola is testing the new vehicles as a pilot
program. If the trucks are successful, they will be extended
to large cities around the word where pollution, traffic congestion,
and gas prices are problems.
