Reflecting its global commitment to protecting the environment,
and as part of The Company's partnership with the World Wide
Fund for Nature (WWF)*, the System in Finland is urging consumers
to recycle more of their used plastic bottles.
Marking the launch of new recyclable 500ml PET bottles which
replace the old refillable packs, Coca-Cola Finland is donating
€0.01 to WWF for every used 500ml PET returned to designated
collection points. With the money, WWF will work to protect
Finland's rare and threatened Saimaa ringed seal.
Although Finnish consumers are renowned for being environmentally
conscious, boasting an impressive bottle return rate of 98 percent,
it is important they continue to recycle the System's new bottles.
Coca-Cola®, Coca-Cola light®, Coca-Cola Zero®, Fanta®, Fanta Free®,
Sprite®, Sprite Zero® and Bonaqua®, which were previously only
sold in Finland in the generic shaped and coloured refillable
PET bottles -- with the exception of contoured Coca-Cola bottle
-- will be now available in 500ml containers, each with their
unique branded bottle. Sprite boasts its green dimpled look,
while Fanta sports a handy splash shape, and Bonaqua has its
classic silver exterior. In addition, POWERADE® and Nestea® bottles,
which legislation previously prohibited consumers from recycling,
can now also be deposited.
Coca-Cola Finland's partnership with WWF follows The Company's
global announcement in the summer of 2007 to work with the nature
preservation organization to conserve and protect freshwater
resources, including seven of the world's most important freshwater
river basins.
