"New Village" Project in China Gives Villagers New Hope

February 5, 2008

"Coca-Cola New Village" was launched in April 2007 and zeros in on the welfare of Hanfeng village in Zhifeng township of Hunan province. Perceived by the provincial government as a model concept, Coca-Cola New Village encompasses a broad range of projects: drilling 101 water wells, building 50 methane power supply facilities, constructing a multi-purpose cultural centre and setting up a clinic. These new infrastructures and facilities are expected to significantly improve the livelihood of the 9,240 local residents and provide them with the much-needed recreation and health care.

The success and innovativeness of the Coca-Cola project have propelled many domestic enterprises to join in the effort to modernize rural villages in Hunan.
