Coca-Cola Supports Flood Relief Efforts in Pakistan

Flooding in PakistanCoca-Cola has pledged approximately Rs. 43 million (US$500,000) to support families affected by recent flooding in Pakistan. The Company will purchase relief supplies -- including cooked and dry food items, staple goods, oils, water and dry milk -- and provide them to various nongovernment organizations and federal and provincial government relief organizations in Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, Punjab and Sindh. A significant portion of the donation will be used to provide clean drinking water to affected families in Punjab.

The flooding has claimed more than 1,800 lives, displaced more than 2.5 million people and destroyed property, farmland, livestock and roads throughout the affected provinces.

Khan, Country Manager for Pakistan and Afghanistan, The Coca-Cola Export Corporation, said, "The recent floods have been really devastating, and the amount of human suffering is immense. We believe that it is our duty as a caring corporate citizen to help our brethren in this hour of need. In this regard, Coca-Cola has joined hands with the federal and provincial governments and various civil society organizations to provide immediate relief in the shortest possible time."

The Company also will contribute tents, blankets and mattresses, and will support the construction, rehabilitation and operation of high schools and shelter homes.
