LEED Gold Environment Certificate
Pacific, September 24, 2009

SHANGHAI  -  Coca-Cola Global Innovation and Technology Center in Shanghai, China, has just been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) GOLD certification. Coca-Cola is the first to achieve the LEED GOLD certification in the beverage industry in China.

LEED is the environment protection standard established and promoted by The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is also the world's most influential rating system among the standards for assessment of environment-friendly buildings, green buildings and for building sustainability.

The Coca-Cola China Complex that achieved the LEED Gold certification is located at Zizhu Science and Technology Park in Shanghai. It opened in March this year. The green design of the complex takes on a broad and long-term approach. Green improvements in the complex are achieved in the following categories: Heating and air-conditioning loads, indoor air quality, outdoor environment, alternative energy, equipment efficiency, and energy saving.

The solar-energy facilities of the complex reduces energy consumption, the street lamps in the Park are powered by wind energy, and the lamps outside the park can be automatically switched on and off in response to the available amount of outside daylight. Rooftop integrated solar powered water system supplies hot water for domestic uses, including showering and bathroom use. Rainwater recycling for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing and additional water efficiencies will account for a 60% water consumption saving annually. Moreover the peak value of power consumption is reduced by about 15%.

Mr. Doug Jackson, President of Coca-Cola China said: "Ever since Coca-Cola's return to China, we have been promoting sustainable development. The Coca-Cola China Complex in Shanghai is a marvelous example, where we are actively delivering on this commitment for sustainable development in China. We are proud that we are the first company in the beverage industry in China, which has been awarded a LEED Gold certification. As the leaders in the beverage industry, Coca-Cola wishes to attract more enterprises to participate in the actions of community resource protection through environmental-protection and energy-saving initiatives."

In June this year, Coca-Cola Bottlers Manufacturing (Dongguan) Co., Ltd. Beijing Plant won LEED Silver certification thanks to its 14.7% energy cost saving and 52.4% water saving rate. In 2009 Coca-Cola Concentrate Plant in Shanghai has also won LEED Silver certification. Additionally Coca-Cola Bottlers Manufacturing (Wuhan) Co. Ltd is expected to receive a LEED certification very soon.
