The Coca-Cola Company has made the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the first time ever -- a testament to the Company's ongoing sustainability efforts.
The DJSI World Index identifies companies that exemplify leadership in sustainability among the top 10 percent of the world's biggest 2,500 companies. A total of 33 companies joined the index in 2009 -- including Johnson & Johnson and Samsung Electronics -- while 33 were deleted.
The annual review of the DJSI family of indices is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices. It accounts for general, as well as industry-specific, sustainability criteria for 58 sectors.
Our Company, which has consistently appeared in the Dow Jones North America Index and the FTSE4Good Index, is one of only five out of 32 beverage companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index to make the DJSI World Index, joining Coca-Cola Hellenic, Diageo, Heineken and PepsiCo.
