Coca-Cola Brasil's Bottling Partner Leão Junior Recognized With Environmental Merit Certificate

Environmental Merit Certificate For Brasil Bottler

Coca-Cola Brasil's bottling partner Leão Junior recently received the Environmental Merit certificate at the 9th Latin American Conference on the Preservation of the Environment, held in the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo. The event has been organized by the Brazilian Institute for Protection of Nature (IBDN, according to the Portuguese acronym) since 2002 to serve as a panel for environmental solutions, promoting new technologies for sustainable development.

In addition, this certification is supported by state environmental agencies. Leão Junior was recognized for its "Green Plant" and "Matte Leão Orgânico" socio-environmental programs.

Coca-Cola Brasil and bottling partners Live Positively initiatives
As part of The Coca-Cola Company's Live Positively platform for sustainability, Coca-Cola Brasil and its bottling partners launched the "Brazilian Rainforest Water Program" in 2007 to support climate and watershed protection through the reforestation of Brazil's vital Atlantic Rainforest, an effort that serves to subsequentially rehabilitate the environment, protect biodiversity, and restore ecosystem benefits once provided by the area.

Also since 2007, Coca-Cola Brasil and bottling partners help develop the "Water Environmental and Social Management Project," shared nongovernment organization "Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica" and ANA (National Water Agency), benefiting 8,000 people directly and 10,000 people indirectly from community and watershed committees. The program involves 20 bottling plants. The "Water Environmental and Social Management Project," which monitors local water resources, aims to create awareness and organize and prepare representatives of the local communities on water management issues, including resource preservation and environmental education.

Through the "Clean Water Program,"Coca-Cola Brasil developed an action plan to reduce consumption, avoid waste, promote re-utilization and look for alternative sources to make use of the resource, benefitting communities near Coca-Cola plants. Another important Live Positively initiative developed by Coca-Cola Brasil and its bottling partners is today's far-reaching rainwater harvesting project, which addresses the protection of freshwater resources, with benefits to biodiversity, local economies and water use reduction. Rainwater harvesting programs throughout the Coca-Cola Brasil System help to positively manage the use of this valuable resource in Coca-Cola operations.

The partnership between Coca-Cola Brasil and local bottlers in the area of recycling and environmental awareness programs continuously expands to reach initiatives such as the International Coastal Cleanup Campaign. The Coca-Cola Brasil System facilitates the cleanup of Brazilian beaches, rivers and lagoons, and provides support to NGOs, state or municipal environmental agencies, associations and schools that help carry out these activities.
