Plantbottle™ Packaging Wins Greener Package Award For Sustainable Innovation

Plantbottle™ Wins Sustainability Award

The Coca-Cola Company's PlantBottle™ PET package made partially from plants recently won a Greener Package Award, reaffirming our position as a sustainable packaging leader and representing yet another step in our journey to create the bottle of the future.

The second-annual Greener Package Awards recognized innovations that significantly reduce packaging's environmental footprint. Eight winners in five categories -- which were selected from nearly 100 entries by sustainable packaging experts from across the value chain and will be featured at Pack Expo International 2010 later this year -- demonstrate that sustainability can be found in a myriad of technologies and materials, from a toothpaste carton, to an insulated shipping package, to a bio-based plant container.

PlantBottle is the only plastic beverage bottle in the marketplace made from plant-based material that is fully recyclable in most communities. Since making its debut in Denmark in December 2009, PlantBottle packaging has rolled out in a variety of pack sizes across our sparkling and still beverage portfolio in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Brazil and Norway. By the end of the year, our Company will have produced more than 2 billion PlantBottle packages.

The innovative bottle has been showcased at marquee events such as the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen and the Shanghai World Expo.

PlantBottle also won the DuPont Award for Packaging Innovation and the Design for Recycling Award from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI).
