Coca-Cola Joins National Clean Fleets Partnership

National Clean Fleets Partnership

U.S. Department of Energy honors Company's progress at Clean Cities Summit

Coca-Cola is one of the newest members of the National Clean Fleets Partnership, a public-private partnership created by President Obama to help large companies reduce diesel and gasoline use in their fleets.

Through the partnership, each member company will work with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a comprehensive strategy to reduce petroleum and diesel use in their fleets by incorporating electric vehicles, alternative fuels and fuel-saving measures into their daily operations. The partnership is part of the DOE's broader "Clean Cities" initiative.

Coca-Cola is already leading the beverage industry in clean fleet technology. Coca-Cola Refreshments (CCR) has more heavy-duty hybrid trucks on the road in North America than any other fleet and currently operates more than 650 hybrid medium-duty trucks. These hybrid trucks reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30 percent, when compared to a conventional truck.

In addition to hybrid trucks, CCR is working to deploy more fully electric trucks. CCR currently has two electric trucks from Smith Electric in the Bronx, N.Y., and soon will deploy six Navistar eStar electric trucks in markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington and New York City. CCR is also training drivers to use environmentally-friendly driving techniques, through the innovative Smartdriver program launched last year.

CCR was recognized for the new partnership and accomplishments to date during last week's Clean Cities Summit, sponsored by the DOE at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
