The annual survey recognizes companies that demonstrate a commitment to diversity in one or more of four key areas: employee base, senior management, board of directors and supplier diversity.
Surveys were sent to the top 1,000 publicly traded companies and 100 leading global companies with strong U.S. operations. The questionnaire focused on activities related to the participation of African-Americans and members of other ethnic minority groups. Information provided by companies on diversity efforts on behalf of other groups, such as women, gays/lesbians/bisexuals/transgender and the disabled, was used as a secondary, supporting criterion for inclusion on the list.
Black Enterprise then performed a quantitative assessment of all respondents in each category. Based on the analysis, each company was given a score per category, which was compiled into a final survey score.
"We are always pleased to be recognized by as prestigious an organization as Black Enterprise," said Steve Bucherati, Group Director, Global Diversity. "There remains much for us to achieve to reach our 2020 Vision goal of achieving true diversity, and we remain committed to that destination."
