Vote for the Coca-Cola Polar Bear to be Honored on Advertising Walk of Fame

Vote for the Coca-Cola Polar Bear

The Coca-Cola polar bears debuted in 1993 in the "Northern Lights" TV ad and have since become an iconic symbol of positivity and happiness around the world. Now our polar bear is one of many advertising icons competing for a spot on The Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame.

Online voting will determine the winning icon, which will be inducted Oct. 4 as part of Advertising Week 2011 in New York City. Our polar bear's competition includes Progressive's perky insurance clerk; Snap, Crackle and Pop; the Keebler Elves; Subway's Jared; and many more. Past inductees include the Michelin Man and the Vlasic Stork.

The winning icon and the winning slogan (with nominations like Nike's " Just Do It") will earn permanent positions on the advertising industry's version of Hollywood and Vine - Madison Avenue (between 42nd and 50th Streets).

Our History With The Polar Bear
The polar bears have a rich history at Coca-Cola . The first polar bear print advertisement appeared in France in 1922, and for the next 90 years, polar bears appeared sporadically in advertising. It was the 1993 animated commercial called 'Northern Lights' that really connected Coca-Cola to the polar bear. The commercial, in which a family of polar bears watch the aurora borealis and drink from bottles of Coca-Cola , took 12 weeks to produce and used state-of-the-art technology. There have been many polar bear spots since, including two ads for the 1994 Olympic Games in which the bear slid down a luge and soared off a ski jump. Bear cubs also were introduced in a holiday ad in which the bear family selects its Christmas tree. Learn more.

Coca-Cola is also investing in our real-life polar bear icon. Coca-Cola and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have successfully partnered since 2007 to increase research in the Arctic, as well as expand awareness of the plight of the polar bear. View video.
