Street-Side Lesson In Water Conservation

April 28, 2006 edition

On April 17, Coca-Cola India (CCI) launched the "Jaladhaare Karavan" campaign to increase the awareness of the management of surface water through rainwater harvesting projects, in association with Rashtra Bandhu, an India federation of grassroots-level nongovernment organizations.

The first phase of the campaign will cover 28 industrial areas in Bangalore and will feature a series of 13 water conservation symposiums. The overall aim is to de-swamp Bangalore through proper rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge programs and to create awareness among industrialists, layout developers, builders, engineers and contractors.

The program will further encourage these key stakeholders to take up rainwater harvesting initiatives -- a proven technique for conserving water and increasing the groundwater availability -- on their premises.
