Company To Sponsor International Coastal CleanupAugust 25, 2006 editionOur Company is partnering with the Ocean Conservancy to sponsor the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) for the 11th consecutive year. The annual event, to be held in locations around the world on or around September 16, will draw attention to the global marine debris problem and promote litter prevention. "We are committed to protecting and preserving our water resources, and our continued sponsorship of the International Coastal Cleanup is part of that commitment to organizations that provide real solutions to environmental challenges," said Jeff Seabright, vice president, Environment & Water Resources, The The ICC is the largest single-day volunteer event for the marine environment. Last year, more than 450,000 volunteers removed 8.2 million pounds of debris from 18,000 miles of coastline spanning 74 countries. The ICC involves more than picking up trash and debris, however. Volunteers collect information about the items they find and relay the data to the Ocean Conservancy for analysis. The information will provide insight into the causes and sources of marine debris and help educate the public on prevention solutions. In addition to providing supplies and helping to train local cleanup coordinators, we will assist with communications and PR efforts to raise awareness of the debris problem facing the world’s waterways.
