Company Receives Praise For Citizenship Initiatives In Nigeria

October 6, 2006 edition

HOPE Worldwide Nigeria, a non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to community-based HIV/AIDS care and prevention, recognized our Company for contributions to the "social development of Nigerian communities" during a September 26 meeting in Abuja.

Irene Ubah, Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola Nigeria and Equatorial Africa Division, spoke at the organization's 10th Anniversary Lecture, entitled "Corporate Social Responsibility and its Impact on an Emerging Economy." Ubah expressed the need for companies to incorporate business ethics, human resource management and environmental stewardship into their overall corporate citizenship strategies.

The Company and The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation have supported HOPE Worldwide for several years. The Africa Group recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to support the Africa Network for Children Orphaned and at Risk (ANCHOR) program, a public/private partnership that supports orphans and children living with HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
