Coca-Cola China Receives Prestigious Awards For Corporate Responsibility Efforts

October 13, 2006 edition

Our Company was honored recently for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in the areas of education and HIV/AIDS prevention in China.

On September 20, Coca-Cola China received the Guangming Daily CSR Award for outstanding achievement with its Project Hope education program and HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives. This is the third consecutive year that we have received this prestige award from the second largest newspaper in China.

The Guangming Daily award is only one of several CSR awards Coca-Cola China has received this year.

On September 7, the American Chamber in Shanghai recognized our overall CSR performance in China with the 2006 Corporate Social Responsibility Award. This year the Chamber used an internationally recognized CSR benchmark to evaluate CSR performance of its member companies as well as some Chinese enterprises. The chamber eventually selected six winners, including two multinational companies.

It was the second annual CSR awarding event of the Chamber. Last year, the Chamber honored Coca-Cola China with its first ever Environmental Protection Award.

On September 6, Coca-Cola China received The Best Partnership Award at the inaugural Chinese Society Model Philanthropy Projects awarding ceremony held in the Great People’s Hall in Beijing.

This CSR award was jointly initiated, under the guidance of China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs, by 15 highly regarded Chinese nongovernment organizations (NGOs) including the China Red Cross, the China Charity Federation, the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation to recognize foreign and Chinese companies’ outstanding contribution to the Chinese communities.

A judging committee composed of experts from the government, media and NGOs established a standardized CSR benchmark to evaluate over 200 CSR programs collected during a two-year period. After an extensive evaluation process, Coca-Cola China and the China Youth Development Foundation’s contribution in Project Hope was selected as one of three winners of "The Best Partnership Awards."

The China Philanthropy Times, China’s official CSR news media, named Coca-Cola China one of the top charity multinational companies in China at the People’s Great Hall in Beijing on April 18. This prestige award was jointly organized by China Philanthropy Times and China’s Corporate Citizen Working Committee under the guidance of Ministry of Civil Affairs. More than 20 NGOs -- including the China Red Cross, the Soong Chingling Foundation, and the China Youth Development Foundation -- participated in the selection process.
