I LOHAS MIKAN -- A NEW FLAVORED WATER FROM THE I LOHAS BRAND
Combines Great Taste and Environmental Friendliness Made with Satsuma Mandarin Extract On Sale Nationwide Starting July 5, 2010
TOKYO, June 3, 2010 - On July 5, the Coca-Cola system will begin nationwide sales of I LOHAS Mikan, made with Japanese natural spring water and satsuma mandarin extract, as an addition to the lineup of the I LOHAS mineral water brand, which combines great taste and environmental friendliness.
I LOHAS Mikan is a new soft drink that combines the Japanese I LOHAS natural spring water with the extract of satsuma mandarins, a domestically produced fruit popular throughout Japan. The refreshing, palatable new flavor has the crisp sweetness of satsuma mandarins. As with the existing I LOHAS mineral water, I LOHAS Mikan comes in a next-generation 12g twistable PlantBottle™1 PET bottle that is the lightest of its kind in Japan2 and is partially made (5-30%) from plant-based materials. After consumption, the bottle can be easily twisted and crushed3, and is fully recyclable at existing PET bottle recycling plants.
The product packaging maintains the simple design of I LOHAS, including its "Great Taste and Environmental Friendliness" logo, but also adds the text "With Satsuma Mandarin Extract" in the center to indicate the product's key feature, as well as an illustration of a fresh satsuma mandarin. The design expresses the invigorating freshness of I LOHAS natural spring water and the fresh, crisp sweetness of mandarins. The cap and label also bear the PlantBottle™ logo, showcasing the environmentally friendly message of I LOHAS.
The I LOHAS mineral water brand, which combines great taste and environmental friendliness, has already sold over 300 million (520ml) bottles4 since its launch in May 2009. It has been the top-selling small-size mineral water product since June 2009, just one month after its launch5.
The Coca-Cola system will continue to develop the sort of functional packaging, such as that used by I LOHAS, and actively develop environmentally friendly products in order to precisely respond to diversifying consumer needs.
