For the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games venues, all vending machines and
coolers provided by Coca-Cola -- more than 5,600 climate-friendly,
"eKOfresh" units -- feature proprietary technology that
improves energy efficiency by up to 35 percent, as well as a natural
refrigerant that is free of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). This
commitment alone will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately
4,000 metric tons, the equivalent of taking more than 19,000 cars
off the road for two weeks. Download press release.
COCA-COLA GREEN TEAMS
During the recent Chinese segment of the Beijing 2008
Olympic Torch Relay, Coca-Cola "Green Teams" helped return
daily city celebration sites to their original condition after the
arrival of the Olympic Flame and also engaged the public about environmental
stewardship. During the Olympic Games, all plastic PET bottles
from the official venues are being collected and recycled for valuable
reuse, through a Coca-Cola partnership with Olympic Games organizers
and the City of Beijing.
OLYMPIANS RECEIVE "IM FROM EARTH"
T-SHIRTS
MADE WITH RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES
BEIJING, August 2008 -- Every Olympian at the Beijing
2008 Olympic Games has been provided this unique "I'm from Earth"
Coke T-shirt made from a blend of cotton and recycled PET, the material
widely used for plastic beverage bottles. Coca-Cola produced
the one-of-a-kind shirt for athletes and officials to raise awareness
about the many ways plastic beverage bottles can be reused. The slogan
signifies both the effort to conserve the planet's resources and the
message of unity for the Olympic Games. Athletes at the Beijing
2008 Paralympic Games in September will receive visors made using
recycled PET.
